Get Out
A great modern horror. There is so much in this movie and it's done so well. It's a rare movie in that you need to watch it more than once to catch everything and it definitely lends itself to discussion afterwards, which I love.
There is a scene at the beginning where the couple is stopped by a cop. It's an awkward scene because it seems focused on race. It's hinted at later that the cop doesn't care about that, other than he fears for the man's life.
The cop wasn't utilized well. Later there is a scene where the best friend tries to get cops to help him and he's teased and laughed at. I think it would have been better if he called the police station and got the cop that had stopped the couple. Someone who believes there is a problem, but is afraid to be open about it because others don't. Maybe he could have tried to visit the place and been turned away harsly. Couple that with the earlier scene and how the daughter reacted it puts a question on the family.
I like how the friend showed up for the rescue, but he could have gotten to the police station and been whisked aside by this cop, because the cop doesn't want the others in the department to interfere. Then when the friend shows up it could have been with the cop. Would tie the cop into it all better.
